Evernote Integration
March 10, 2011 | 23 Comments
For those Evernote users out there, we have had many requests to have Get It Done import your Evernote notebooks into the app. If you don’t know what Evernote is, it is a popular app which makes it easy for you to collect notes and files.
If you are an Evernote user we make it quick and easy to view your Evernote notes in Get It Done.
To enable Evernote go into your settings in Get It Done and click plugins and click ‘Enable Evernote integration’:
You should now see ‘Login to Evernote’ and a new category ‘Evernote Notebooks’
When you click this you will need to login to Evernote so that we can access your information:
After you do this you will need see your notebooks under the ‘Evernote Notebooks’ category along with your projects and focuses:
When you click on one of your notebooks you will see all of the notes in that particular notebook. If you taged any of the notes in the Evernote application you can filter the notes by clicking on the tab at the top of the page :
From this screen you can click the edit button to edit the note or if you click the Evernote preview icon you will open the note in Get It Done:
Using Smart Groups to Organize Your Evernote Notes
Many of you use ‘Smart Groups’ to organize your tasks. If you do not know how to use Smart Groups you can check out this post. Basically Smart Groups are a way to group together tasks that have the same tag. Evernote also allows you to tag your notes. Wouldn’t it be great if you can group together all of your tasks AND Evernote notes that have the same tag? Now you can, all you have to do is create a Smart Group with the tag that you want to use to group everything together.
For Example, if you what to group all your “Home” tasks and Evernotes together in one place you would first create a Smart Group in Get It Done by clicking the + button next to the Smart Groups category on the left. In the following screen, enter the new name of your Smart Group and enter ‘Home’ in the tags field and then click ‘Save’:
Now any Evernote or task with the tag ‘Home’ will show up in your new Smart Group:
And thats is, if you have any questions let us know!

I am a new user and have some requests for improvements to make this great idea really work for me. I am using to areas (home and work) and at work have about 25 projects. Because I have so many tasks, I need a project column in the Today, Next, Scheduled and Someday screens to help me understand which project is associated with each task. I also need column headings that you can click to sort the tasks (click due date to sort by this column or click name to sort by name). Also, I oftwn want to move a series of tasks rather than dragging them one at a time. So, I need a way to move or otherwise handle multiple items at one to save time. It’s too time consuming to deal with them one at a time.
I am excited to see these soon because I really need this app to work for me.
Thanks!

Thanks for the good sugestions

Hi Guys,
Great product I find I use it more and more and have sold co-workers on it as well. A couple of things that would come in handy
1. Could you not have multiple email address that your daily reminder could get emailed to?
2. If so could you have your personal tasks go to one email and your work one go to another?

Hello. I am on a trial period of your service. I heard about it through the evernote website, citing you as one of their partners. I was intrigued, as I thought that I could easily take a note from evernote and add a reminder to it, but I can’t find this feature (if there is one) in your service. Can you clarify this? Thank you

Currently you can view and edit and organize your evernote notes.

Regarding Evernote plugin;
In Evernote there are three views, thumb, list, mixed.
In get it done app, I only find one view, thumb.
I believe this slows my notebook loads considerably, and limits my navigation efficiency.
Any plans to expand this?
(This is currently the only reason that I would refrain from subscribing).

Currently this is the only way to view the notes, we have no immediate plans to change this but we are always looking for suggestions to make the app better

I support Chase’s requests in terms of view of Evernote items. It would enhance navigation. It would also be great if we could drag an evernote item to the inbox and add a due date.
Great app. Are you planing desktop app like evernote?
Mike 'Get It Done' Staff 30 May 2011
no desktop app planned yet, we will see in the future

Hi, I’m a ToodleDo user but I would jump immediately if I could simply use Evernote notes for the notes on tasks. Is there a way to do this in GetItDone?

I second the request for a due date attached to Evernote notes. Otherwise I can’t imagine a reason why the two products should be integrated.

I am so confused by the Evernote integration. My assumption was that I could add a Get It Done task to Evernote or a due date to an Evernote task in Get It Done. Am I reading that you can just view your Evernotes in Get It Done and there is no way to associate a new task with an Evernote notebook? If that’s true then this whole thing is silly. If it’s just my user error, I look forward to hearing what I’m missing.

We wanted to be able to access your Evernote notes from Get It Done or organize your notes into Smart Groups by tag. We have not yet added the ability to add a due date to a note

I am test driving and agree with recent post that Evernote Integration would make more sense to edit, date, and I like the idea that the notes on Task integrate with EN too!
I have a Blackberry and am so frustrated with all the iPhone and iPad apps, but no Blackberry apps for cool apps such as yours!
I plan to get an iPad soon, but for now I am have a Blackberry. If you have an app for the Blackberry playbook, then why can’t there be a Blackberry app? I love Evernote and dropbox, because I can open them on my computer or my phone and they stay synced. That is what I am looking for with GTD.
Please keep working on it. I think it has a lot of great features, just some tweaking to be done.

I love the evernote intergration on the app. But it doesn’t seem to appear on the ipad app. Is there something amiss or does it only work on the computer app?
Mike 'Get It Done' Staff 23 Jul 2011
currently Evernote is Online only

Just to add my voice to the idea of ‘It would also be great if we could drag an evernote item to the inbox and add a due date.’ This would be the game changer integration wise.

I can’t seem to find an answer to this anywhere so I guess I’ll just post this here.
How do I access my notes when I’m not online?? Today I didn’t have an internet connection and realised I had no access to my notes! It was so frustrating that I didn’t think of it sooner, luckily I occupied myself and tried to remember my list from memory but if I transfer my master list here then I’ll need access to it on my laptop even when I don’t have a connection so I can do my work.
Please please tell me you have this feature *prays to all the gods*

If you have an iPhone, Android device, iPad or BlackBerry PlayBook, or Barns and Noble Nook Color then you can access your data anywhere offline with our free apps that are in their respective app stores. The desktop app does not have this functionality yet.

Like it so far. I was using Astrid but didn’t like that it would not sync with Evernote. I will let you know what I think. Also like the Google Calendar sync and the ability to email tasks to Get It Done. Also, here in Indy when Tony Dungy was the head coach of the Colts it was common to hear “Get Er Dun- gy”. Mike

Evernote allows me to centralize my notes. What would be of great value is to have the ability in my note to make an action item (to do item), that then syncs with the get it done app. If I close out a To Do item in get it done, then the item would be closed out in evernote. Somehow there needs to be an ability to do a single entry of an action item, and have the two applications sync between eachother.
If there is that capability then this would make the integration between the two applications very powerful.
Robert 14 May 2012
When will Evernote integration be available for Android versus online only?
Mike 'Get It Done' Staff 14 May 2012
Yes, everything you can do online you can do on the mobile device (except for printing which depends on the device)
